Ken Ayers, Captain

Ken Ayers, your Captain and Host, is a USCG licensed captain with a sail endorsement. He has been sailing for 30 years in the Virgin Islands, Caribbean, Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Bahamas, and the Chesapeake Bay and has been doing captain charters for the past 10 years.   

Ken is a criminologist and holds a Ph.D. in criminal justice.   He taught for over 20 years in higher education and has successfully incorporated his professional teaching experience into teaching sailing in a relaxed and comfortable setting.  He has the natural ability to keep you smiling with his witty humor and sailing stories.       

Captain Ken has a passion for sailing, teaching and making people laugh.  His hobbies include cooking, water sports, and writing.  Ken has written sailing articles for Sailing Magazine and Hunter Marine's corporate magazine Knot Line.  Captain Ken will let you design your own cruise and take you to those places you have spent a lifetime dreaming about.

Susan joined Caribbean Soul the summer of 2007.  She has experience crewing on private charters and crewed charters in the Caribbean.

She has sailed for private yachts and deliveries for the past 4 years and her experience includes frequent Caribbean passages, three Gulf of Mexico crossings, one Atlantic crossing, a few deliveries in the Mediterranean.

You will find her very entertaining as she has plenty of great sailing stories.


Captain Ted Baker

Great personality, a wealth of knowledge, tons of experience.... That's Captain Ted.

Captain Ted has 30+ years sailing experience in keelboats from 22 to 44 feet. He ha experience as both a charter captain and a racer.  His experience complements the Captain Ken, thus making him a perfect fit for Caribbean Soul.

Captain Ted has had four years as an offshore sailing coach at the U. S. Coast Guard Academy. Four years teaching nautical science, seamanship and boat handling, also at the USCG Academy.

Ted hold the following USCG licenses: 2nd mate, oceans, unlimited tonnage; master, oceans, 1,600 gross tons; master, fishing industry vessel, 2,000 gross tons.

With the unparallel growth in 2008, Captain Ted will share Captain responsibilities for the 2009 sailing season.

Captain Ted will be your Captain if you book certain weeks during the 2009 season.
